An insight to my work and methods.

I use a variety of methods in my work as I do not want the restrictions of just one medium. At times it will include, etching, dry-point and linoprinting, as well as painting. For me the printmaking process is not merely about producing an edition, but a mark making event. I find the rich black of the etched line somewhat seductive. There is an underlying theme running throughout my work which is rising up through adversity. Where creativity will always come to the surface, just as “truth will out”. As with all my work you are confronted with feelings of angst and yearning for solace, "dark into light". The paintings consist of watercolours torn and laminated and at times joined to fabric. There is a strong persistence of bees wax in the work, allowing the distressing of the surface and formation of a deep tactile depth. Unusually I use watercolour, a perceived genteel and calm medium, with a diverse assault pushing the medium well beyond the normal boundaries of convention. Our memories contain fragments of time – frozen and awaiting the opportunity to be replayed like an old film. Sometimes we will recall these fragments and reassemble them as inspirational stories from our past experiences. We can choose to replay what is relevant and acceptable to us at any given moment. Some fragments however contain our most joyous and feared moments and these are retained as indelible and unchanging scenes. Such scenes often remain hidden on the cutting room floor as they become too personal to share.  Only occasionally will they come bursting through the screen at you and if shared by an audience they too will be reminded of such experiences.
